What is MuktiBangla?

That’s the million dollar question isn’t it?  Well, let’s analyze the name; “Mutki” in Bangla means freedom or free, and "Bangla" is another form of the historic region of Bengal.  Putting the words together MukiBangla means “free Bangla”.  Therefore the goal of the MuktiBangla group is to free Bengal-in particular the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the independent eastern Bengal region of the Indian subcontinent.

In 1971, the talk of freedom throughout the province of East Pakistan was widespread; people had the audacity to aspire to freeing themselves from West Pakistan’s oppressive military grip and economic deprivation.  The Bengali people dreamt of a land full of opportunities for people of all walks of life and the chance to alleviate themselves out or poverty and suffering.  But When we look at the current state of affairs in Bangladesh, it is apparent that our forefathers' dreams have still yet to be unfulfilled, that the people still need to be free.  Poverty is still there, opportunities are still limited.

MutkiBangla’s goal is to help provide poor Bangladeshis significant opportunities to raise their standard of living.  The poor people of Bangladesh are certainly hard workers embodied with a phenomenal set of work ethics; however certain institutional and socio-economic barriers keep them from ascending over the poverty line to the growing middle-class.

The vanquishing of ignorance through education is perhaps the most decisive key to social mobility in any society. Therefore MuktiBangla’s goal is to provide free education to the poor Bangladeshis so they can have a foundation to build up on to help themselves to get out of poverty.

Charity is of course of the utmost importance on both secular moral and religious grounds. Yet simply doling out money to the poor blindly and unconditionally is not the solution.  If we give money to the poor without any supervision, then we simply will have no way of knowing what the product of our charity is going towards; whether that money is going to buy drugs, alcohol, guns, or to actually support the poor man's family we can and will never know.  That’s why we will not focus on giving out free money; instead we want to give away free education.  By providing education, we endow the people with a tool which they can use for the rest of their lives.

In the main stream educational system of Bangladesh, Bangladeshi students are taught what to think instead of how to think.  With MuktiBangla’s education plan we want to teach the poor how to think and so they can make smart decisions which will better their lives.

MuktiBangla’s goal is also to act as an umbrella towards other Bangladeshi groups.  There are many groups with Bangladeshis who want to help Bangladesh, but they are not united.  MuktiBangla’s goal is to act as a nexus among these Bangladeshi groups to help coordinate with each other to speed up the development of Bangladesh.

MuktiBangla wants to target Probashi Bangladeshi first to build up an authority base from UK, USA, EU, Canada, and Australia.  Probashi Bangladeshis have the responsibility to do something positive for Bangladesh.  Probashi Bangladeshis have the opportunities, the strength, the money, the education, and the exposure to western modernization, to help Bangladesh reduce poverty.

MuktiBangla’s primary target members are doctors, engineers, lawyers, academics and other professionals in the Western world, though of course Bangladeshis of all walks of life are most welcome to join our project.

MuktiBangla is a non-profit organization and we want to transcend (and therefore seperate ourselves from) all politics.  We are a non-political organization with one focus: to help the poor people of Bangladesh. We guarantee that MB will have absolutely NO affiliation to any of the political parties of Bangladesh.
