Palbasha Siddique – The Bangladeshi-American Star

Palbasha SiddiqueWho is this talented young lady? She is a Bangladeshi-American singer from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I believe she is also in contact with Nora Ali, the American Junior Miss of 2007 winner. Palbasha moved to the US with her family when she was 10-years-old. So she grew up as an American singer since childhood, but if you take a look at her videos, she has never forgotten where she comes from.

Palbasha Siddique was also in nTV’s CloseUp1, which is the Bengali version of American idol held in Bangladesh. Palbasha Siddique did not win the CloseUp1 competition regardless of her golden singing talent. In my opinion, due to how emotional Bangladeshis get, they chose someone who is of the lower class; they would never choose Palbasha because she’s from America.

Palbasha is popular for singing the modern version of Rabindronath Tagore’s song “Praan”, which was used for the 2008 version of “Where the Hell is Matt?” on YouTube. The YouTube video got over 30 million hits as of today.

The song’s lyrics are displayed below in both Bangla and in the English transliteration:

  Praan
Bhulbona ar shohojete
Shei praan e mon uthbe mete
Mrittu majhe dhaka ache
Je ontohin praan

Bojre tomar baje bashi
Shey ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami

Shei jhor jeno shoi anonde
Chittobinar taare
Shotto-shindhu dosh digonto
Nachao je jhonkare

Bojre tomar baje bashi
She ki shohoj gaan
Shei shurete jagbo ami

Here is the video that got over 30 million views on YouTube.
Where the Hell is Matt?

Why did I write this? Palbasha Siddique is a probashi Bangladeshi, and look how far she’s gotten, and she sang “Praan” a Bengali song in Hollywood. We have a lot of opportunities in America so let’s use it.

  2. Wisdom is found in knowing the truth, understanding absolute values, and knowing how to apply these values to one’s life. At the beginning, the individual needs facts and information, but later in life, he can weave these facts into a broader set of knowledge. Knowledge is worthless unless it is used to find and apply in life what is good. In the search for wisdom, the individual must avoid becoming a pedant, studying the insignificant, or retiring from the world to become a scholar. Wisdom consists of knowing how to apply the good to life.

Lynn, what you just said about needing to be nearer to some believers made me think of and organization called Moms In Touch. It is an organization that facilitates groups of mothers to pray for their children and the schools they are in. Each group is school based but does not meet in public schools. These groups have brought some of the best Christian fellowship that I have ever experienced and what I know about prayer I learned there. I have found it to be an organization very anointed by the Holy Spirit. You can look them up online to find out more and if there is a group in your childs school.

Andrew, How do you know he’s good? Are you using his own standard or yours? What does ‘good’ even mean in this context? The answer to your question has to do with the categories of epistemology (how we know) and ontology (how things are), but Im afraid that I personally cant give you a more fully-orbed explanation that would be satisfactory to you. Thats not to say that it cant be done. Did you read the article I linked to? I think it gives an answer to your question.
